How do I turn off my Messenger greeting on Facebook?

When your Facebook Page is connected to Chekkit, keep Facebook’s automatic replies off so customers don’t get an auto-reply from Meta and a reply from your team (or AI) in Chekkit.

Facebook’s “Messenger greeting” is controlled by Meta’s Auto reply automation (Meta’s docs also call this Instant Reply). It lives in Meta Business Suite Inbox — not in Chekkit.

Turn off Auto reply

  1. Open Meta Business Suite

Go to business.facebook.com and select the correct Page/account in the left sidebar.

  2. Open Inbox

In the left sidebar, click Inbox. Automations is not on Home, and searching All tools will not show a separate Automations tool.

  3. Open Automations

In the top-right of Inbox (next to Create messaging ad), click the Automations icon — it looks like overlapping circles / an atom. Hovering shows the “Automations” label.

  1. Find Auto reply

Under Your automations, look for Auto reply (Goal: Greet people). Also check Away message if you don’t want that either.

  1. Turn it off

Toggle Auto reply Off, or open Edit and leave the toggle Off, then save if needed.

  1. Test

From a personal Facebook account, message your Page. Confirm no automatic first reply is sent — only replies you (or Chekkit AI) send from Chekkit.

Do not turn off messaging on the Page to “remove the greeting.” Disabling Allow people to message your Page? hides the Message button and stops Messenger conversations from reaching Chekkit.
